Our Philosophy
Everyone deserves the best chance to improve their swallowing or communication, and we will give you the time and support to do this. Our belief is that therapy is a partnership, as such we will listen to you about your goals and wishes to enable us to plan together how to meet them. If decisions need to be made, we will work through them together to ensure you are comfortable. We have a functional and holistic approach to all aspects of our work.

Speech & Language Therapist
About Jennifer
With over 20 years as an NHS Speech and Language Therapist before founding Jennifer Benson Speech & Language Therapy 7 years ago, I have treated patients with communication and swallowing difficulties across acute wards, rehabilitation units, care homes, hospices and in their own homes, specialising in neurological conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, Motor Neurone Disease and Parkinson’s Disease. I am the founder and director of Jennifer Benson Speech and Language Therapy Ltd, a specialist independent practice providing assessment and therapy for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. I work predominantly with individuals affected by neurological conditions, with particular expertise in stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and motor neurone disease (MND).
I am passionate about delivering a truly bespoke, expert service to every client I work with. Communication is at the heart of everything I do, and I strongly believe that everyone has the capacity to progress towards meaningful goals when therapy is tailored to their individual needs. My approach is evidence based, creative, and highly personalised, recognising that no two people — or their communication needs — are ever the same. I work closely with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure therapy is relevant, functional, and focused on what matters most to each individual.
Alongside my clinical work, I am actively involved in shaping practice at a national level. I am a Clinical Advisor to the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and a key member of the Expert Core for the MND Association Community of Practice, contributing specialist knowledge to support best practice in the field. These roles allow me to stay at the forefront of developments in speech and language therapy and ensure that my clinical work reflects current research, guidance, and innovation.
I regularly present at conferences and professional events on a wide range of topics, including cognitive communication disorder, adult neurological rehabilitation, and dysphagia. I am also invited to contribute to media discussions and have appeared on television, helping to raise awareness of communication and swallowing difficulties and the vital role of speech and language therapy.
Through Jennifer Benson Speech and Language Therapy Ltd, my aim is to provide compassionate, expert-led therapy that empowers individuals, supports independence, and enhances quality of life. I am committed to delivering high-quality care that is collaborative, respectful, and centred on the goals and priorities of every person I work with.
