Award Winning Speech and Language Therapist
Last week I travelled to London to attend the ASLTIP conference and award ceremony. ASLTIP stands for the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice, and it was great to meet with friends and colleagues in the profession for learning and networking opportunities.
I was also delighted to receive the Maria Farry Award for outstanding contribution to Speech and Language Therapy! Nominated by my colleague Alexandra Findlay, it was quite overwhelming to hear the testimonial, which referred to all of my work with people with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and the MND Association where I sit on the Expert Core, as well as my work in the community. They also talked about my campaign to find #avoiceforrichie and the television appearances we made during that time. Receiving the award and making a short speech (definitely no Oscars style here!) was only slightly less scary than appearing on live television when we went on Steph’s Packed Lunch!
I feel massively humbled and honoured to have received this award – I love my work and that motivates me to do the best I possibly can for everyone I work with. To be recognised for ‘doing the day job’ means everything to me. And to have another trophy add to my Giving Voice award from December 2021 is amazing – my desk is making me smile this week!
So – if you have a neurological condition affecting your communication or swallowing and would like to be treated by an award winning Speech and Language Therapist – look no further!
